A Great Display Matters.
OOn the evening of October 14, Visionox, iQOO and Tsinghua University held the "Shining National Display: Daring to Compete" Display Technology Communication Conference at Tsinghua Science Park in Beijing, officially unveiling the 2K 185Hz Ultra Champion Display that will make its debut on the iQOO Neo12. Lei Technology was invited to attend and cover the event.

In the gaming smartphone segment, alongside performance, heat dissipation and battery life, the display has gradually emerged as one of the most closely watched core components in recent years.
Over the past few years, iQOO has never stopped pushing the boundaries of display technology. From popularizing 144Hz panels on the iQOO Z series in its early days, to the 2K 144Hz high-refresh display on the Neo11, and now the 2K 185Hz screen on the Neo12, both image quality and refresh rate have been continuously raised to new heights.
However, combining 2K resolution and 185Hz refresh rate on a single display is far more technically challenging than simply stacking the two specifications. The panel must drive more pixels while completing each refresh in less time, placing higher demands on power consumption, luminous efficiency and driving capability.
To meet this challenge, iQOO partnered with Visionox and Tsinghua University to develop the all-new "Sky Mirror" luminescent material for the Neo12, introducing customized pTSF technology for the first time.

Short for Phosphorescent-assisted Thermally Activated Sensitized Fluorescence, pTSF may sound like a complex term. Put simply, it uses different materials to relay energy in sequence, before finally delivering the energy to high-color-purity fluorescent materials to emit light. This allows the display to maintain its brightness and color performance while cutting down on unnecessary power use.
According to official data, compared with the previous-generation luminescent material, "Sky Mirror" boosts luminous efficiency by 8%, raises global peak brightness by 10%, reduces display power consumption by 6.5%, and extends service life by 50%.

Additionally, OLED displays are prone to color shift when viewed off-axis. The new material has been specially optimized for this issue: color shift is reduced by 18% at a 30° viewing angle, and even at a wide 75° angle, color deviation is cut by 40%. Whether checking messages with your phone resting on a desk or watching videos with friends, color reproduction will remain far more consistent.
Of course, advanced luminescent materials alone are not enough.
For refresh rate, the iQOO Neo12 adopts an ultra-high 185Hz refresh rate, which can be enabled simultaneously with 2K resolution.
Per figures released at the event, the display packs approximately 4.608 million pixels. In 185Hz mode, the refresh window for each individual frame is just 5.41 milliseconds. To get such a huge number of pixels to refresh within such a short timeframe, the driver chip had to be fundamentally upgraded.
To that end, Visionox and iQOO co-developed a custom high-performance 2K 185Hz display driver IC, featuring 10% more integrated circuits and a 28% improvement in driving performance. Processes such as per-screen precision calibration and Demura compensation were also introduced to further enhance brightness and color uniformity.

These ever-climbing refresh rates are built first and foremost for the split-second, game-decisive moments in competitive titles.
Especially in FPS shooting games like Game for Peace and Delta Action, a higher refresh rate delivers noticeably smoother visuals during quick turns, aiming and target tracking.
That said, the display supporting 185Hz does not mean all games will natively run at 185fps. Actual performance will depend on the manufacturer's game adaptation list, as well as the real-world performance of the full device.

On that front, the iQOO Neo12 is confirmed to feature a dual-chip setup: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite processor paired with the self-developed e-sports chip Q3, plus a new-generation Monster Super Core Engine. It will also bring the Ice Dome active cooling fan to the Neo series for the first time, reducing frequency throttling under heavy loads and keeping frame rates steady during long gaming sessions.
All in all, the 2K 185Hz Ultra Champion Display on the iQOO Neo12 delivers not only high resolution and a high refresh rate, but also impressive gains in brightness, lifespan and power efficiency thanks to the domestically developed pTSF luminescent technology.
For a long time, Samsung Display was the first name that came to mind when talking about top-tier smartphone screens. Now, with Visionox working alongside iQOO and Tsinghua University to bring new luminescent materials and high-refresh driving technology to mass-produced devices, domestic display makers are steadily building a stronger presence in the high-end market.
One last note: the iQOO Neo12 will officially launch later this month. Lei Technology will bring you a full hands-on review right after the release, so stay tuned.
