From standalone smart devices to whole-home interoperability.

2026 IFA Special Report (20).png

September 8 marks the final day of IFA 2026 in Berlin, Germany. As one of the world’s three premier consumer electronics trade shows, this year’s IFA—open since September 4—has drawn over 1,900 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions, with an estimated 220,000 visitors expected from around the globe. LeiTech (ID: LeiTech) has deployed its “LeiTech IFA26 Reporting Team” to Berlin for on-the-ground, comprehensive, and real-time coverage of the event.

As a global home appliance giant, Midea showcased its “Simply Ideal” theme at IFA 2026, emphasizing elevated intelligence, comfort, efficiency, and convenience across its product lineup. Consequently, Midea’s most compelling highlight at IFA 2026 may not be any single hardware device—but rather SMART MASTER, its AI-powered intelligent agent.

Midea’s AI agent operates across four core home scenarios: indoor comfort, kitchen cooking, energy management, and appliance services. It seamlessly integrates with the Midea App, in-vehicle systems, smart speakers, and whole-home intelligent appliances. According to Midea, the agent supports far-field voice pickup up to 8 meters away, responds in just 0.4 seconds, and recognizes up to 140 languages.

SMART MASTER even enables intelligent coordination with solar power generation systems, energy storage devices, and the power grid—optimizing household energy consumption to reduce utility costs.

These capabilities mean that, if Midea smart appliances are installed throughout the bedroom, living room, kitchen, and dining area, users can control them via voice commands from virtually anywhere in the home—across rooms—and the system is fully optimized for European users.

Of course, no matter how advanced the intelligent system becomes, it is ultimately Midea’s hardware appliances that deliver tangible value to consumers.

Kitchen appliances were a key focus for Midea at IFA 2026. As in previous years, space efficiency remains central to this category. Guided by the “SPACE MASTER” philosophy, Midea maximizes usable interior volume within constrained physical dimensions.

For example, the Midea SPACE MASTER refrigerator delivers a 443L capacity in a standard 60cm width; its built-in oven achieves a 92L internal volume—sufficient to accommodate multiple baking trays simultaneously. Even Midea’s InfiniteFit induction cooktop series adopts an ultra-slim design to minimize kitchen footprint.

Midea’s Visionary-series refrigerators feature GlassVision transparent viewing windows: internal lighting activates automatically as users approach, enabling clear visibility of stored items without opening the door. This design reduces unnecessary door openings, minimizes cold-air loss, and improves energy efficiency. Notably, Midea has integrated AI functionality into this model—the lights activate only upon confirmed user presence, further optimizing power savings.

Beyond kitchen appliances, Midea’s air conditioners—essential during summer—also drew significant attention. Its new AI voice-controlled air conditioners debuted officially at IFA 2026. Liang Yan, Vice President and General Manager of Microsoft China’s Enterprise Commercial Division, praised Midea at the launch event, stating that the company has successfully fused AI technology with real-world household needs—making AI feel more natural and seamlessly embedded in daily life.

The R290-series air conditioners—including the H-Pack and PortaSplit models—deliver up to 10% higher energy efficiency compared to units using conventional refrigerants. According to on-site reporting by LeiTech, PortaSplit split-system air conditioners will adopt the R290 solution starting in 2027. Midea displayed multiple PortaSplit units at IFA, each featuring distinct installation configurations.

In China—where per-capita air conditioner ownership exceeds one unit—the market for split-system air conditioners is relatively small. In contrast, Europe presents a vastly different landscape: labor costs are extremely high; many urban areas feature aging infrastructure; and installing air conditioners is often time-consuming, costly, and sometimes prohibited due to restrictions on wall drilling. These compact, easy-to-install split-system units are therefore ideally suited to European consumers. As reported by Jiemian News, Midea’s PortaSplit units experienced severe supply shortages across Europe this past summer.

Looking ahead, as domestic Chinese appliance manufacturers continue expanding overseas, embedded kitchen appliances and split-system air conditioners—designed specifically to meet European market demands—will be absolutely critical to their international success.

In addition, Midea’s OMNI-series laundry and cleaning products—including the Omni Fusion washer-dryer combo, Omni DUO dual-drum laundry system, Omni Trio triple-drum laundry system, and Omni Ped S shoe washer—along with dishwashers, were also showcased at IFA.

Beyond traditional appliances, Midea unveiled three robots at IFA, all built on the EAGLES system architecture and powered by four multimodal foundation models. These robots cover diverse application scenarios—including cleaning, laundry, companionship, and cooking—and demonstrated live capabilities such as serving cutlery and popcorn, and performing choreographed dance routines.

A comprehensive review of Midea’s expansive IFA 2026 exhibit reveals a clear evolution in its overseas strategy: from exporting standalone hardware to delivering integrated AI-, sustainability-, and scenario-driven solutions.Rather than competing solely on individual appliance specifications, Midea now leverages its Midea AI Agent to unify whole-home devices, energy systems, and embodied robotics—transforming intelligence from isolated features into proactive, holistic household service capabilities.

Targeting the European market, Midea has precisely addressed local pain points—including aging residential infrastructure and prohibitively high installation costs—by adapting its offerings with embedded kitchen appliances, split-system air conditioners, and multi-drum laundry systems. This strategic localization positions Midea well to maintain its leadership amid the current wave of global expansion.

From September 4–8, the world’s largest consumer electronics and home appliance exhibition—IFA 2026—took place in Berlin.

Recognized globally as the “most authoritative IFA media outlet” for AI-focused coverage, LeiTech dispatched its largest and highest-caliber reporting team to Berlin this year. Operating under a “2+N” model—two live hosts, multiple on-site editors, and multiple remote editors—the team delivered immersive, multidimensional, and first-hand reporting from IFA 2026, with special emphasis on AI Agents’ integration with appliances and hardware, robotics’ convergence with home-life scenarios, emerging trends in human-vehicle-home digital lifestyles, and Chinese brands’ global stage presence.

The LeiTech IFA2026 Reporting Team is actively covering the event from Berlin—stay tuned!
