IFA 2026 officially opened in Berlin, Germany on September 4. As one of the world’s three major consumer‑electronics trade shows, this year’s IFA drew more than 1,900 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions under the theme “The Future is Now”. The Leitech reporting team for IFA 2026 is working hard on‑site in Berlin to deliver on‑location, comprehensive and first‑hand coverage of the event.
From Leitech’s on‑site observations, the consumer‑electronics vibe at this year’s IFA is far more prominent than in previous years. Many AI hardware brands are seizing the IFA opportunity to roll out their second‑half product roadmaps. For instance, AI simultaneous‑interpretation device brand Timekettle launched its new‑generation AI translation headphones, the Timekettle W4 Plus, during the show. With this release, the W4 series now covers three product lines: W4, W4 Plus and W4 Pro. In addition, Timekettle also showcased several popular products including the X1 Meeting and T1 at IFA.

Design-wise, the W4 Plus follows a minimalist, business-oriented aesthetic: the earbuds adopt a semi-in-ear design with extended stems. The longer stem increases the physical distance between microphones in the microphone array—enhancing audio pickup and voice separation capabilities at the hardware level, while also accommodating a larger battery. Despite these enhancements, each W4 Plus earbud weighs only 5.7 grams. According to LeiTech’s evaluation, even extended use feels lightweight—similar to the earlier W4 model, which also imposed no perceptible burden.
In terms of translation performance, the W4 Plus runs the upgraded Babel OS 3.0, supporting 52 languages and 106 accents—including major language combinations such as Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, German, French, and Spanish. Its audio capture hardware retains the hybrid bone-conduction voiceprint + dual-microphone architecture, eliminating cross-talk issues common in other translation earbuds.

Functionally, the W4 Plus retains the two core modes of the original W4 while adding two new features: call translation and media translation. Call translation intercepts Bluetooth audio signals directly from the source to deliver real-time translated output—making it compatible with virtually all voice and conferencing applications. Media translation simultaneously outputs translated audio through the earbuds while displaying live subtitles as an overlay on the connected smartphone screen—ideal for watching American TV series, attending online classes, or listening to speeches.
Notably, the pricing strategy for the TimeTeller W4 Plus reflects a significant shift. To ensure optimal user experience, TimeTeller previously bundled long-term AI service costs into the upfront purchase price of its AI simultaneous interpretation devices—eliminating recurring subscription fees. This approach resulted in higher retail prices compared to conventional translation earbuds, effectively raising the entry barrier for TimeTeller’s AI-enabled products.
To address this challenge, TimeTeller has introduced a subscription model for the W4 Plus:
The TimeTeller W4 Plus is offered in two versions: a one-time purchase edition and a subscription edition. The former retails for USD 379 (RMB 2,679 in China), granting full access to all AI features without any monthly fee. The latter is priced at USD 299 (RMB 2,179 in China); after the trial period ends, users must subscribe to the AI service for USD 14.99 per month.

In LeiTech’s view, the subscription-based W4 Plus marks a strategic pivot for TimeTeller’s AI simultaneous interpretation earbud market positioning. Because prior models bundled long-term AI licensing costs into their upfront price, TimeTeller’s offerings lacked competitive pricing advantages. However, if the W4 Plus subscription model proves viable, TimeTeller could readily extend it to other popular products such as the X1 and T1.
LeiTech believes that lowering the entry price point will attract more new customers—and set TimeTeller’s AI development on a virtuous cycle. Whether the W4 Plus subscription experiment succeeds will become clear at CES in early January.
