Ergonomic chairs are making waves at this year’s IFA.

On September 4, IFA 2026 officially opened in Berlin, Germany. As one of the world’s three premier consumer electronics trade shows, this year’s IFA attracted over 1,900 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions, under the theme “The Future is Now.” LeiTech (ID: Leitech) deployed its “LeiTech IFA26 Reporting Team” to Berlin to deliver on-site, multidimensional, and firsthand coverage of IFA 2026.

Many Chinese brands were present at IFA—and as we strolled through the exhibition halls, we spotted the familiar LiberNovo booth. It felt familiar because editors at LeiTech use LiberNovo chairs daily in our office. Their pioneering “Dynamic Ergonomic Chair” has earned widespread acclaim for its exceptional user experience.

LiberNovo also won two awards at this year’s IFA: the IFA Innovation Award Honorable Mention and the Gadget Flow IFA Best Product Award. The first award—conferred by IFA itself—recognizes exhibits demonstrating technological breakthroughs and innovation; the second is awarded by Gadget Flow, a leading platform dedicated to discovering innovative tech hardware and design products, with a strong focus on cutting-edge tech launches.

Meanwhile, while passing through the IFA “Award-Winning Products” display zone, we found LiberNovo’s chair prominently showcased inside a glass case—an unmistakable sign of high visibility and prestige.

This year, numerous ergonomic chair brands attended IFA 2026—including several headquartered in Shenzhen. LiberNovo’s booth was nearly continuously packed throughout the event. After observing for a while, we noticed a steady stream of international visitors—many of whom sat down and simply didn’t want to get up, slipping into what we jokingly dubbed “stubborn relaxation mode.”

We spoke informally with several attendees who had just finished test-sitting the chair—and their feedback was remarkably consistent: “Support is spot-on; it feels incredibly comfortable.” LeiTech (ID: leitech) also experienced the product firsthand on-site.

LiberNovo’s naming convention is distinctive: “Dynamic Ergonomic Chair.” Specifically, the chair moves *with* the user’s body—its headrest, backrest, seat cushion, and armrests all coordinate in real time, automatically adjusting support points as posture changes. Its reclining mechanism offers five preset angles—from a focused 105° upright position to an almost supine 160°.

In simpler terms, this is a chair that moves *with you*. According to official specifications, its holographic adaptive system relies on a precision four-bar linkage structure coupled with synchronized motion across 60 joints—essentially transplanting robotic motion-control logic into an office chair.

This year at IFA, LiberNovo spotlighted its Maxis series—designed specifically for larger-framed users. According to Yan Yue, Founder and CEO of LiberNovo, after launching internationally, the company received overwhelming feedback from larger-bodied users requesting a chair truly tailored to their needs. While the prevalence of larger body types in Western markets is widely recognized, Xiao Lei observed during his Berlin site visits that even local furniture, subway seating, and fast-food packaging often feel “one size bigger.”

The Maxis series isn’t merely a scaled-up version of standard chairs. Instead, it’s comprehensively redesigned around the real-world load requirements of heavier users throughout the day—incorporating reinforced weight-bearing base structures, segmented reclining systems, and other innovations to ensure larger users can sit comfortably, recline confidently, and remain fatigue-free during extended use. One tall, broad-shouldered tester told LiberNovo that he’d previously felt uneasy reclining on other chairs—but with this one, he could lean back fully, relax, or even stretch out without hesitation.

In LeiTech’s view, LiberNovo’s product philosophy aligns closely with evolving workplace trends. Office workers’ health awareness continues to rise, and concerns about long-term sedentary risks are growing. People increasingly resist being locked into rigid postures dictated solely by keyboards, mice, and screens—and instead seek seamless transitions between work, rest, and entertainment.

Traditional ergonomic chairs primarily address static support. LiberNovo, however, aims to achieve something more ambitious: “When the user moves, the support adapts dynamically.” To realize this vision, LiberNovo invested heavily in R&D—its segmented reclining system and precision four-bar linkage structure were both engineered explicitly toward this goal.

Whether LiberNovo’s approach resonates with the market is already evident in the numbers. In June 2025, LiberNovo launched its first Dynamic Ergonomic Chair on Kickstarter, raising over RMB 6.75 million within 24 hours. It then debuted on Japan’s Makuake platform, where it surpassed JPY 100 million in its first 24 hours—setting a new record for ergonomic chairs on that platform. Earlier this year at CES, LiberNovo’s booth drew massive crowds—and now, its momentum has carried seamlessly into IFA.

In our assessment, LiberNovo exemplifies a new paradigm for Chinese chair brands going global—not competing solely on fabric, mesh quality, or lumbar support angles, nor relying purely on price wars, but instead redefining the category through disruptive technology and a fresh product strategy.

For decades, ergonomic chair design authority resided largely with overseas brands, while Chinese manufacturers mainly served as cost-efficient OEM/ODM partners. Today, a new wave of brands—including LiberNovo—is entering global markets with bold, user-centric philosophies—delivering novel experiences to consumers worldwide. That’s good news for everyone.
